Lysanne was born in the Netherlands, and moved to St Albans where she spent her childhood.

Having spent much time in Sussex visiting her grandparents in Brighton, Lysanne decided to move to Brighton in her early twenties which is where she met her husband Neil, and they later moved to Worthing to start their family.

Lysanne graduated from university with a 2:1 BA Hons in Drama, then followed a career in teaching as a secondary school drama teacher. Following the birth of her son, Lysanne started her business providing babywearing support to thousands of families across West Sussex.

Her career today is supporting young people who are unable to access mainstream education, teaching them in their homes and helping them rebuild confidence in themselves and learning, which she finds incredibly rewarding.

Lysanne was elected as Councillor in Tarring Ward in 2024 and is incredibly proud to represent her constituency.

Lysanne has chosen the following charities to support in her Mayoral year: Worthing Cat Welfare Trust, Reaching Families and CYCALL.

Lysanne says:

“As someone who is neurodivergent, I know both the strengths and the challenges that can come with it. That's one of the reasons I'm embracing the hashtag of #themayorwiththepinkhair

If my year as Mayor can show even one neurodivergent young person that there is space for them in leadership, public life and positions of responsibility, then I'll consider that a success.

As Mayor, I also want to be approachable. I want people to feel that this role belongs to everybody in our community.”
