Anniversaries, celebrations and memorial days
Each year various days or events are celebrated or commemorated throughout the UK (and for some of them the rest of the world as well).
Some of the more major ones for the UK and its residents are listed alphabetically below along with external weblinks that may be of interest:
- Armed Forces day (formerly Veterans Day): June
- Black History Month: every October in Britain
- Bonfire Night / Guy Fawkes Night: 5th November
- Chinese New Year: January/February
- Christmas: 25th December (Boxing Day: 26th December)
- Commonwealth Day: second Monday in March
- Diwali - The Festival of Lights: November
- Earth Day: 22nd April
- Easter: between late March and late April each year
- Eid: occurs after Ramadan - see below

- Halloween: the night of October 31st
- Hanukkah: 25th day of the month of Kislev (varies from late November to late December)
- Holocaust Memorial Day: 27th January each year
- International Women's Day: 8th March
- New Year: 1st January in UK, but dates for other cultures may vary
- Older People's Day: 1st October
- Ramadan: timing migrates through the seasons as the Islamic lunar calendar year is 11 to 12 days shorter than the solar year
- Remembrance Day: 11th November (two minutes of silence at 11:00am on November 11th - the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).
Remembrance Sunday: is the Sunday nearest to 11th November.
