The Vice Chairman of Adur District Council

2020-21 - Vice-Chairman of Adur District Council - Cllr Stephen Chipp

The Vice-Chairman of Adur District Council is Cllr Stephen Chipp

Stephen Chipp, son of Robert (Bob) and Margaret Chipp was born in Whitehaven, Cumbria and moved to Weymouth in Dorset at the age of three. His father ran fish and chip shops throughout his childhood. His mother worked at the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food (MAFF) fish disease laboratory in Weymouth. It made for an interesting discussion when his parents applied for a mortgage when asking for their names and occupations!

Following the separation of his parents Stephen spent time in mainland Spain in his early teens before returning to the UK. Following the completion of school and college he spent a further two years in partnership with his father and brother in, once again, fish and chip shops in the UK and the Balearic Isle of Mallorca where he would meet his future wife Clare.

In 2002 Councillor Chipp moved to Brighton to be with Clare and they have since married and have two children, Eloise and Samuel, although Poppy the Hungarian Vizsla came first! Stephen is a Director of a long established Letting and Managing Agent in Hove.

He became the councillor for St Mary's Ward in a bye election in December 2014. In 2018 to be near his family home he requested to move over to contest Southwick Green Ward in which he was duly elected.

Stephen's hobbies and interests include golf, walking with his dog and family on the South Downs and his beloved Liverpool Football Club - he only hopes that a 30 year drought will shortly be ended in terms of winning the league title!

Stephen said:

“I am also looking forward to working with and supporting the Chairman Cllr Andy McGregor during his year. Together we will promote our communities and people and our Districts by the Sea”
