The Vice Chairman of Adur District Council

2019-20 - Vice-Chairman of Adur District Council - Cllr Andy McGregor

The Vice-Chairman of Adur District Council is Cllr Andy McGregor

On his mother's side Andy's family go back many generations in Lancing and West Sussex, mostly in horticulture. Andy's grandparents met when his granddad was a gardener and his grandmother was a cook at Lancing College. Andy's dad moved to Lancing from Kilmarnock when he was very young and his mum and dad were school sweethearts in Lancing. Like most Lancing residents at the time, Andy was born at Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.

Andy studied Applied Biology at Brunel University. His early career was in Medical Research, specifically immunology and microbiology. Andy then moved on to a long and successful career moving around the UK with various Pharmaceutical companies, eventually settling back in Lancing with his young family in 1991.

Andy has been married to Sue for 37 years and has three daughters, Victoria, Sarah and Anna, all educated in Lancing, Worthing and Shoreham. In his younger days Andy was a champion fencer, winning the North West Championships, Sussex County Champs and representing the South East at the Nationals. Andy was also UK Jive Champion in his younger days too and can now be found teaching dance lessons locally and at dance holidays. Nowadays Andy is still a sportsman. A keen yachtsman who, last year come second in Class at Cowes Classics Week, third at Cowes Week and was made "Crew Member of the Year" at Brighton Marina Yacht Club. Andy also volunteers for Sailability as Sussex Yacht Club and would like to invite more people to join this very worthy cause as helpers - no sailing experience necessary.

This is Andy's third term as a Councillor on Adur District. Andy fights fiercely for the rights of people who live in his ward and he works with Adur councillors from other parties to ensure "we get the best possible service for the residents of Adur District".

If the Chairman is unable to attend an event the Vice Chairman can attend on their behalf and take on the role and responsibilities of the Chairman.
