Allotments Self-Management Consultation
Thank you for visiting this page regarding our Consultation on Self-Management of Allotments.
We commenced the consultation in November 2020 with a presentation via Zoom to provide the opportunity for Tenants to hear of the experiences of Worthing Allotment Management (WAM) when they commenced the process at West Tarring allotments around 2012/13.
After their 12 month trial, they decided to go for a larger project taking over the management of seven out of eight allotments in Worthing. These are run by the tenants who established themselves into a well-run organisation and today they are looking to renew their self-management arrangement.
Proposal
The proposal options available to Worthing only tenants would be to join Worthing Allotment Management (WAM), consider a stand-alone self-management arrangement or, remain as is under the umbrella of Worthing Borough Council.
The proposal options available to Adur only tenants would be to consider a stand-alone self-management arrangement or, remain as is under the umbrella of Adur District Council.
Timeline
The process timeline we will follow is:
- October 2020: Launch to proposal by writing to all tenants
- 2nd November 2020: Presentation by WAM by video link
- November 2020 - 30th March 2021: Answer questions received by email, letter or telephone from tenants/overseers
- 1st April 2021: Voting slips be submitted/returned by the end of April 2021
- 3rd May 2021: Council to review voting slips and carry out the count.
- 10th May 2021: Write out to tenants to inform of the result and define next steps.
We appreciate that there is a long lead in time for the process but feel it best to give plenty of time to allow for conversations between tenants and between the Council and Overseers to allow the ideas, and issues to filter through the discussion process that is so needed when contemplating change.
The next few months will allow for you, the tenants to consider self-management or whether you wish to remain under the umbrella of Adur District Council or Worthing Borough Council (depending on your allotment site).
To help you we have included in this page the slides from the presentation on 2nd November and will add in frequently asked questions as they are asked along with our responses:
