Help shape our homelessness and rough sleeping strategy
At Adur & Worthing Councils, we believe that safe, secure, and genuinely affordable housing is a fundamental human right. It's at the heart of everything we do, guiding our public services to uphold dignity, support well-being, and enable everyone to thrive in our welcoming communities.
The past five years have brought unprecedented challenges. The rising cost of living, soaring private rents, and frozen benefit rates have created immense financial strain for people, leading to a significant increase in homelessness and rough sleeping right here in Adur and Worthing, and across the nation. These pressures are not just affecting our residents; they're creating substantial and unsustainable financial burdens on the councils themselves.
That's why we've developed our Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2025-2030. This isn't just a legal obligation; it's a core commitment and a moral imperative, deeply aligned with our overall vision, 'Our Plan'. We firmly believe that early investment in preventing and addressing homelessness is not just beneficial, but essential - a prudent long-term financial strategy that will ultimately prevent even greater costs down the line.
Tackling the complex issues of homelessness requires a unified approach. We are dedicated to working hand-in-hand with a wide network of organisations, partners, and local communities across Adur and Worthing. This strategy is our comprehensive roadmap towards a clear vision: to prevent homelessness, make it brief when it occurs, and ensure it doesn't happen again for those who experience it.
We need your voice to make this strategy as effective as possible. This plan builds on our past experiences, reflects on the changing needs of our residents, and identifies crucial areas for improvement. Now, we're inviting you, our residents and partners, to review the draft strategy and share your thoughts. Your feedback is vital to ensure our services are effective for everyone facing homelessness or rough sleeping.
