What is Adur Volunteering Week?

We are showcasing the work of our volunteers and community groups and are seeking to help the community learn more about the important roles they play in our communities.

This is a great opportunity for residents and businesses to get involved and see first-hand what volunteering opportunities are available across Adur.

From Friday 2nd to Thursday 8th October 2026 we will be promoting and encouraging residents to explore, learn and participate in the amazing work of our community and volunteer groups across Lancing, Sompting, Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate.

As part of a week of activities across the district we hope residents will not only be able to learn more about our community groups and volunteering opportunities, but also have a chance to be actively involved.

Friday 2nd to Thursday 8th October 2026:

8am to 8pm: National Coastwatch Shoreham
The Lookout, Forthaven, Shoreham Beach, BN43 5HY
Learn more about National Coastwatch Shoreham, supporting safety out at sea and along the shoreline. Please note there are several steps to access this site.
Shoreham Wordfest - Time & Tide Festival
1st to 11th October - various events/venues/dates/times
Shoreham Wordfest runs an annual festival every autumn to promote creative writing, author talks, plays, song. Also a festival every April to celebrate Shakespeare. Creative Writing workshops and author events for children and other community projects.
Must be good with the public, have an interest in books, plays, writing, communication. Must be fit and active to carry out stewarding and aware of health of safety for public events.

Friday 2nd October 2026:

10am to noon: Shoreham Beach Residents Association - weeding, gardening and planting
Meet at the southern end of the Adur Ferry Bridge
Find out more about Shoreham Residents Association and support the group as they work to weed, garden and plant this area south of the Adur Ferry Bridge. Gardening will involve bending and kneeling.

Saturday 3rd October 2026:

12 midday to 1:30pm: Friends of Shoreham Beach - Beach Clean
Shoreham Beach, BN43 5LJ
Beach clean - meet at the Ferry Road entrance of Shoreham Beach.

Sunday 4th October 2026:

3pm to 5pm: The Circular Space - Over the Moon C.I.C
The Circular Space, Ham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 6PA
Join Emily and the team to learn more about volunteering at The Scrap Space using salvaged, donated and recycled materials.

Monday 5th October 2026:

10am to 11:30am: Adur Voluntary Action Digital Skills volunteering
Lancing Parish Hall, 96-98 South Street, Lancing, BN15 8AJ
Pop along and meet the Adur Voluntary Action team in their new home in Lancing Parish on the 5th October if you'd like to help volunteer and support residents with their digital skills.

Tuesday 6th October 2026:

10am to 11:30am: Keep Lancing Lovely - beach clean
Meet near The Perch on Beach Green in Lancing
Learn more about Keep Lancing Lovely and their community activities, and join in with this community beach clean and litter picking event.

12 noon to 3pm: Worthing Mencap - Supporting Adur
The Shoreham Centre, Pond Lane, Shoreham, BN43 5WU
Pop along to meet Tim and find out more about the work and volunteering opportunities with Worthing Mencap in Adur.

Esteem Volunteers Open Hour
3pm to 4pm (tour at 3:30pm)
and 6:30pm to 7:30pm (tour at 7pm)

Pop along to this informal info session with a tour of our centre to find out more about Esteem and the work we do with young adults.

4:30pm to 6:00pm: Friends of Adur SSSI - River Safari
Meet at the Ropetackle Arts Centre, Little High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea BN43 5EG
Join the Friends of Adur River and learn more about the rivers protected elements that make it a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). This route is wheelchair friendly.

10am to 12 midday: Lancing Community Garden
