We are hosting a public services on Friday 15th August 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day), which officially marked the end of World War II.

Everyone is welcome to join us at these events in commemorating the milestone anniversary.

We hope you can attend these services and join us in remembrance.

In Adur:

At midday, veterans, the Chair of Adur District Council, Councillor Adrienne Lowe, and local councillors will be gathering around the flagpoles outside the front of The Shoreham Centre to join the nation in a two-minute silence.

Lancing Parish Council is also hosting a service at Lancing Parish Hall from 11am, where the Village Crier will deliver the VJ Day 80 proclamation, followed by the raising of the flag. After the ceremony, attendees will be invited into the parish hall's community hub for coffee and cake, accompanied by a live performance.

In Worthing:

At midday, veterans, the Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Cathy Glynn-Davies, and local councillors will be gathering around Worthing War Memorial outside the Town Hall to join the nation in a two-minute silence.

We will also be commemorating the historic occasion by planting a new English Oak at Homefield Park, which has been kindly funded by the community through our tree-sponsorship scheme with Trees for Streets.

The tree will be planted at 3pm and has been funded to honour the 80th anniversary of VE Day, VJ Day and the end of the Second World War. The Mayor of Worthing and the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, Lady Emma Barnard, will be in attendance.
