Work progressing well on refurbishment of empty Adur council homes

Released: Friday, 30 October 2026

Dozens of our council homes have been transformed from outdated, empty flats into modern, energy-efficient homes for Adur families to move into in the last few months.

We're spending up to £2 million refurbishing and improving a large number of our council homes that have fallen empty and which require significant investment before they can be lived in again.

Since we started the project in June, we've completed renovations on the first 26 homes in Southwick and are currently working on a further 19.

We're bringing these empty homes up to a good standard so Adur families in need of somewhere to live can move in.

The amount of work required varies between properties, but some homes need new kitchens and bathrooms as well as upgraded heating and insulation, plus new fans and ventilation systems.

The images below show a comparison between one of the homes that we're working on and one that has been refurbished ready for Adur residents to move into again.

This flat in Grange Court, Southwick, has been transformed with a new kitchen, a new bathroom, double glazing and carpets (plus redecoration throughout).

Alongside making these empty homes ready for tenants, we're running a programme of improvement and modernisation of our council homes across the district.
