Adur Volunteering Week comes to close with celebration event

Released: Friday, 09 October 2026

Adur Volunteering Week came to a close yesterday, Thursday 8th October 2026, with a celebration and networking event at The Shoreham Centre.

The event was a chance to bring together volunteers, charities and groups from across Lancing, Sompting, Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate in order to recognise their contribution, share experiences and build new connections.

All week we have been promoting volunteering events and opportunities that are available to the community via our website, to highlight the vital work that charities, groups and volunteers do in our communities.

At yesterday's celebration event we heard from Karen Macleod, the CEO of Adur Voluntary Action, who spoke about the many volunteering opportunities in Adur and stories from the week.

There was also a chance for people to network with each other, with groups sharing what would help them most and volunteers sharing what help they can offer.

Certificates of appreciation were handed out to some of the 92 organisations nominated by councillors and partners by Councillor Adrienne Lowe, Adur's cabinet member for communities, wellbeing and leisure, and by Chair of Adur Councillor Julia Watts.

Councillor Jeremy Garder, the leader of Adur District Council, and Councillor Becky Allinson, the deputy leader, closed the event with a discussion about how we can continue to support the voluntary and community sector in Adur.
