Discover Brooklands Park's birds with new identification panel

Bird spotting at Brooklands Park has just got easier, thanks to a new identification panel, generously sponsored by Shoreham District Ornithological Society (SDOS).
The information panel showcases some of the many bird species that can be spotted around the park and lake, from grey herons and cormorants to the vibrant kingfisher. You'll find it along the main path, just south of the playground at the north end of the lake.
Designed and funded by SDOS and installed by our parks team, the panel will help residents and visitors discover more about the wildlife on their doorstep.
Councillor Martin McCabe, our cabinet member for the environment, met Jenny Holter, chair of SDOS, and other members this morning to celebrate the panel's installation and learn more about the diverse bird species that enjoy the park's lake and wider landscape.
Brooklands Park is now welcoming a greater variety of bird species following our work to revitalise the lake and support nature recovery across the wider park, making it an even better place to connect with nature.
A huge thank you to SDOS for making this project possible. Next time you're visiting the park, stop by the panel and see how many of the featured birds you can spot!
SDOS has more than 400 members and welcomes birdwatchers of all experience levels. It organises walks across Sussex and talks in Shoreham throughout the year.
