Adur District Council celebrates volunteers with week of activities

This October we'll be celebrating the vital work of volunteers and community groups in Adur with the launch of Adur Volunteering Week.
The event will run from Friday 2nd to Thursday 8th October 2026 and will promote volunteering events and opportunities that are available to the community via our website.
Community groups will get the chance to showcase the important roles they play throughout Lancing, Shoreham, Sompting, Southwick and Fishersgate, and residents who want to volunteer will get to hear about opportunities to get involved where they live.
There are many benefits to volunteering, including developing new skills and making friends, and lots of different ways to volunteer. Several volunteering events are already available to view on our website, including at Lancing Community Garden, The Circular Space in Shoreham and The National Coastwatch Institution Shoreham.
Groups who already have a community volunteering event planned for that week or who would like to set one up can take part by filling out a short form here:

The week will culminate with a celebration and networking event on Thursday 8th October, bringing volunteers and community organisations together to recognise their contribution, share experiences and build new connections.
Councillor Adrienne Lowe, Adur's cabinet member for communities, wellbeing and leisure, said:
“Whether it's by taking part in a litter-picking event, coaching a grassroots sports team, making deliveries for a food bank, running an arts workshop, or providing admin support for a charity, everyone who gives up their time to help others has our gratitude. Adur Volunteering Week is a chance to celebrate that work and say thank you to all of the volunteers in our communities.”
