Parks and gardens retain prestigious Green Flag status in Worthing

Five of Worthing's parks and gardens have once again earned national recognition for their excellent management, environmental standards and appearance.
Worthing Borough Council has secured Green Flag Award status for Beach House Park, Denton Gardens, Field Place, Highdown Gardens and Marine Gardens again.
This year's application for Field Place was kindly sponsored by South Downs Leisure, which operates the facilities at Field Place Manor House & Barns within the green space. The application for Beach House Park was sponsored by local businesses ECE Architecture, which is based on Brighton Road adjacent to the green space.

Managed by Keep Britain Tidy, the Green Flag Award is the national benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces, recognising sites that are welcoming, well maintained, environmentally sustainable and supported by their local communities.
The achievement reflects the dedication of the council's parks team, alongside the invaluable contribution of local volunteers, whose efforts help keep Worthing's parks, nature reserves and coastline looking their best throughout the year.
Maintaining and enhancing Worthing's parks, green spaces and town centre is a key part of Pride in Worthing, the council's new initiative to create a cleaner, greener and more welcoming place for residents and visitors throughout the year.
The council is extremely grateful to the Friends of Denton Gardens and the Friends of Marine Gardens for their continued support, as well as the volunteers who help with maintenance and a range of other activities at Beach House Park, Field Place and Highdown Gardens.

Residents who would like to get involved at Beach House Park are invited to attend volunteer mornings on the first Tuesday of every month. Sessions run from 10am to midday and offer a great opportunity to enjoy gardening, connect with nature and meet new people. Volunteers should meet at the Green Flag Award by the Palm Court Pavilion. No equipment or previous experience is required.
Councillor Martin McCabe, Worthing's cabinet member for environment, said:
“We're incredibly proud that five of the town's best green spaces have once again achieved Green Flag Award status.
“It's a testament to the hard work and commitment of our parks team and community of green-fingered volunteers, whose dedication ensures these spaces remain welcoming, attractive and well cared for for everyone to enjoy.”

The Green Flag Award is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
Awards are presented annually, with sites independently assessed against a range of criteria, including how welcoming they are, cleanliness, safety, environmental management, biodiversity, heritage conservation and community involvement.
