Parks and nature reserves retain prestigious Green Flag status in Adur
Released: Tuesday, 14 July 2026
Green spaces and a stretch of coastline in Shoreham and Lancing have once again been nationally recognised for their management, environmental standards and appearance.
Adur District Council has retained Green Flag status for Buckingham Park, Lancing Ring Local Nature Reserve, Lancing Manor Park and Shoreham Beach Local Nature Reserve.
This year's Green Flag application for Lancing Manor Park was kindly sponsored by South Downs Leisure, which operates Lancing Manor Leisure Centre within the park.
The national award, managed by Keep Britain Tidy, is the benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces, recognising sites that are welcoming, well-maintained, environmentally sustainable and supported by their local communities.
The achievement reflects the dedication of the council's parks team alongside the invaluable contribution of local volunteers, whose work helps keep the district's parks, nature reserves and coastline looking their best throughout the year.
We're grateful to the Friends of Buckingham Park, the Friends of Lancing Ring and the Friends of Shoreham Beach for their continued support. Volunteers regularly take part in activities including general parks management, planting and litter picks.
Councillor Andy Harvey, Adur’s cabinet member for environment, said:
“Retaining Green Flag status for all four sites is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our parks team and the many volunteers who give their time to care for these spaces.
“Our parks, nature reserves and coastline are incredibly important for wildlife, recreation and people's wellbeing. We're proud to provide high-quality spaces that residents and visitors can enjoy, while protecting them for future generations. I'd like to thank everyone whose dedication has helped us achieve this recognition once again.”
The Green Flag Award is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
Awards are presented annually, with sites independently assessed against a range of criteria including welcoming visitors, cleanliness, safety, environmental management, biodiversity, heritage conservation and community involvement.
