Worthing Borough Council agrees budget and council tax charge for 2026/27

Released: Wednesday, 04 March 2026

Residents living in the average Band D home will be charged less than 3p per day extra by Worthing Borough Council for its services for the next 12 months.

A meeting of the full council today agreed to a below-inflation council tax rise of 2.97% - the equivalent of just £8.19 more per household per year, for an average annual bill of £283.86.

Regeneration of the town centre and seafront will be a key priority for the council over the next 12 months, with extra investment in Worthing's key attractions.

Worthing Pier will get a permanent fix to the section damaged by storms, improved coastal defences will be completed and the new green heart of the town centre at Montague Gardens will welcome its first visitors.

Work will progress on a plan to secure the future of the lido for generations to come while the council will push ahead with the regeneration of the former Grafton multi-storey car park site for the benefit of the whole community.

The council will continue to focus on helping its most vulnerable local residents, in particular those at risk of becoming homeless and those on the lowest incomes.

It will also roll out a new food waste service to all homes in the borough, to reduce the amount of waste being put into landfill.
