New operator agreed for the Adur Outdoor Activities Centre
Released: Friday, 30 May 2025
We're delighted to share that Adur Outdoor Activities Centre will soon be hosting sport and recreational programmes again that benefit people's health and wellbeing.
Following a recent marketing process, we have agreed to lease the important community site to Simon Whitmore, subject to finalising terms. Simon began his career at the centre and now has more than 30 years of experience in delivering recreational activities.
Mr Whitmore specialises in youth outdoor activities and previously helped deliver the Duke of Edinburgh's Award - a nationally-recognised programme that encourages young people to challenge themselves and develop valuable life skills.
He will be supported by his wife Lizzy, who has an extensive background in education and helping young people grow and develop. Lizzy also previously worked at Adur Outdoor Activities Centre and understands what the site can offer to the community.
The couple, from Shoreham, impressed us with their passion to deliver affordable programmes at the centre that would benefit the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors. We're also excited by their clear vision to make the centre more accessible for people with special and individual needs, as well as catering for all age groups.
We launched a marketing campaign for the building after its previous tenant unfortunately ceased its services with immediate effect and went into administration at the end of last year. We were open to offers from organisations of all sizes and backgrounds, to ensure the site continued to be maximised as a community hub for sports and outdoor activities.
We're excited to be working with Mr and Mrs Whitmore and can't wait to see their vision for the centre, located beside the River Adur, come to fruition.
It's expected Mr and Mrs Whitmore will open the centre in Autumn 2025 with the site being fully operational with seasonal activities starting in Spring 2026.
