Work starts on Worthing's Colonnade House sustainability improvements
Released: Friday, 30 May 2025
Work to improve accessibility and sustainability at Colonnade House has started.
We will upgrade the building with the help of a grant of more than £460,000 from Arts Council England, and will also contribute more than £40,000 to the project ourselves.
The plans include repairs to the roof, the creation of an accessible entrance system and a redesign of the building's exterior to include a composting area.
A host of sustainable measures that are subject to planning permission are also part of the project, such as installing solar panels and triple glazing, and replacing the current heating system.
Contractors will start doing essential electrical work in the coming weeks before the main improvements can be made - with all work due to be complete by March 2026.
Earlier this year we confirmed that Adur & Worthing Trust, which runs and manages Colonnade House, has committed additional funding so that the gallery and studio space can continue to operate as usual for the rest of 2025. This gives us more time to continue to bid for outside funding to ensure the continuation of our town's creative hub.
We are also using feedback from the consultation at the start of the year to see how we can continue to support the creative community and develop Colonnade House's exhibitions and events for residents, visitors and community groups.
