New homes for our residents: Victoria Road, Worthing
About the site
We've redeveloped the site of the old RAF Air cadets temporary buildings in Victoria Road to create 11 new energy-efficient council properties for families with children.
The new flats, close to Worthing town centre, have been built to Passivhaus standards, which means they are so well constructed, insulated and ventilated that they need very little energy to heat or cool, so residents will have far lower fuel bills.
We secured around £800,000 of funding from Homes England, the government's national housing and regeneration agency, to help pay for the clearing of the site and the construction of the new homes to highly sustainable standards.
These new flats mean families from Worthing who we were having to house outside the borough, because of a lack of properties here, have been able to move closer to their friends and relatives, their jobs and their children's schools.

October 2024
Our contractor, Sunninghill, will shortly move onto the site to start work on the new flats. In recent days, bushes and shrubbery has been removed from the site, under the supervision of an ecologist, in advance of the main construction teams moving in.

November 2024
Sunninghill has now started the groundworks. Last month members of the Sunninghill team and some of our officers held an open session at Worthing Town Hall for residents to ask questions and give us their thoughts about the upcoming work. We're grateful to everyone who came out to speak to us and will ensure we do everything we can to minimise the impact of the project on the neighbours.

Our contractors have resumed work post-Christmas on the construction of our 11 new energy-efficient council homes. Over the coming weeks the first foundations of the new homes will begin to appear on the site.
