New homes for our residents: Ashcroft House, Shoreham-by-Sea
We plan to provide dozens of new homes for older Adur residents on the site of our former Ashcroft House sheltered housing and our eight empty bungalows next door in Kingston Lane, Shoreham.
The residents of the 21 flats at Ashcroft House were rehoused in 2020 after an assessment revealed the building needed urgent and extensive fire safety improvements. It was determined it would be more effective to replace the building with modern purpose-built sheltered accommodation, with gardens for the residents. Ashcroft House was then demolished early in 2024, ready for the site to be redeveloped.
We have now agreed to sell the site to Worthing Homes. The housing association intends to build 57 one and two-bedroom sheltered accommodation flats on the land.
All of these flats would be allocated to individuals on our housing register. Worthing Homes would manage and maintain the building and the new residents would be tenants of the housing association.
The agreement is subject to Worthing Homes securing planning permission to demolish the eight bungalows and build 57 flats on the site. Development of the site will also require funding support from Homes England.
Worthing Homes hopes to submit a planning application in the next few months. Work on site is expected to begin in 2026, with the new tenants ready to move into their new homes in 2027.
