Beach wheelchairs
Book a beach wheelchair in Worthing
We have two specially-designed beach wheelchairs (child's wheelchair, an adult's wheelchair) available to help families and groups enjoy time together on Worthing's seafront.
The equipment, which is free to hire, is designed to help visitors with mobility issues to more easily access uneven surfaces, such as our shingle beach, thanks to their large inflatable wheels.
The equipment is stored at Splashpoint Leisure Centre in Brighton Road, with the building's Changing Places facility available for use when borrowing the equipment.
The beach access equipment can be used on the promenade and the shingle.
Due to the nature of our steep shingle beach, moving the equipment back up to the top of the promenade can be challenging. We therefore encourage anyone wanting to use the equipment on the shingle to make sure they have sufficient assistance in advance.
The user, carer or parent hiring the equipment is responsible for assessing whether the wheelchairs can be safely used and returned.
Note: If you are unable to manoeuvre the equipment back up the beach, this will result in a medical emergency situation and you will need to dial 999 and ask for the fire service (and medical assistance if necessary).
Bookings must be made in advance. To reserve a slot with a piece of equipment, please follow the link below to our online booking page:
We would like to thank the Worthing Beach Wheelchair Fund, whose campaign funded the child's chair. We obtained the adult's beach wheelchair.
