Change of details

Every Benefits customer has to notify the Council's Benefit section in writing about any relevant change in their circumstances that may affect their benefit entitlement.

You should always tell us as soon as possible.

If the change means that you are entitled to more benefit and you do not tell us within one month of the change, you may lose benefit.

If the change means that you are entitled to less benefit and we have paid you too much benefit, we will ask you to pay it back.

Examples of changes that must be notified to the Council are:

Family changes

  • Your partner moves into or out of your house
  • You get married
  • You separate or divorce
  • Your child leaves school
  • You stop receiving Child Benefit

Household changes

  • You move home - this may require you to complete a new Housing Benefit claim
  • Someone moves into or out of your home
  • You sublet part of your home

Income changes

  • Your savings change
  • Your Tax Credit award changes

This list is not exhaustive and therefore if you are in any doubt at all please tell us about the change as soon as possible.
