The Chairman of Adur District Council
Councillor Joe Pannell
2023-24

2023-24 - Chairman of Adur District Council - Cllr Joe Pannell

Joe was born in Southlands and grew up in Southwick, moving to Lancing when he was 12 years old.

He attended several schools in the District; St. Peter's in Shoreham, Manor Hall Middle School in Southwick and then King’s Manor in Shoreham. Joe did not complete his schooling, but instead went into extended work experience in the family boatyard business.

From there Joe progressed into working with horses which included carriage driving and riding and competing at showgrounds such as Royal Windsor, South of England and numerous others. He has won at the South of England and also qualified for the Royal Windsor carriage driving. His claim to fame came about some years ago, during a carriage driving horse show in Stanmer Park in Brighton, when he was in proximity to the late Duke of Edinburgh who was visiting the show at the time and walking around meeting different people.

Joe's foray into politics stems from his grandmother, Irene Sweet from Southwick, who also served as a local District councillor. His family on both sides have over a very long time had very strong ties with the District.

Joe has been married for 20 years to Kirstie and has two sons, Joby and Mo, who are both studying at Worthing College. The family share their home with four dogs and enjoy taking them for walks along the lovely countryside that surrounds the Adur District and on the riverbank.

Jo runs a camping business in Lancing, the Barn Caravan Park. His business now in its 20th year, has been welcoming campers ever since to this part of West Sussex and growing under glowing reviews.

Joe said:

“I am honoured and privileged to have been given the opportunity to serve as the Chairman of Adur District. I will work hard to promote the District and the growing communities and businesses and I am also delighted to represent Widewater Ward”

During his term of office Andy has chosen charities to support, for details please see:
