Worthing's Statement of Community Involvement 2006

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) forms an integral part of the Local Development Framework (LDF). It sets out the Councils commitment to involve communities and other stakeholders in the production and review of planning policy documents that make up the LDF. It also details how developers should involve communities and stakeholders in discussions regarding major planning proposals prior to seeking planning permission, and how the local planning authority will consult with the community and stakeholders once a planning application has been made.

In drafting the SCI the Council undertook three stages of consultation before the document was submitted to the Secretary of State for Examination by an independent Inspector. The Inspector considered the document to be 'sound' and the Council adopted the SCI in October 2006 (See link below).

In response to changes in legislation it became clear that the adopted SCIs for both Worthing and Adur Councils would need to be updated. Although it was accepted that a full review was not required at that time it was agreed that a short update should be adopted setting out the changes in legislation and what that means for community involvement and the adopted SCIs. For this reason, an update report (linked below) was taken to Cabinet Members in January 2010 when it was agreed that Annex 1 would be made available and should be read in conjunction with the adopted Statement of Community Involvement.

Joint Statement of Community Involvement

Please note that a Joint Statement of Community Involvement for both Adur and Worthing was adopted in December 2012:
