Worthing hosts conference to bring better housing to the town

Released: Friday, 24 February 2023

Dozens of industry experts have taken part in Worthing Housing Conference, part of a drive to bring forward new plans to deliver high-quality, genuinely affordable homes in the town.

Key leaders from property development companies, housing associations, architects, charities and consultants from across the region came to Worthing yesterday to get a better understanding of how the Council wants to provide sustainable and accessible housing.

The event at Rooms Worthing, in the Guildbourne Centre, involved presentations and discussions with councillors, Council officers and guest speakers on how Worthing can provide an exciting opportunity for vibrant housing schemes.

Guests were also taken on tours of two undeveloped sites - Teville Gate and Union Place - to get an impression of their size and potential for development.

The Council is aware of the high demand for affordable and social housing for people of all ages. The conference explored how the Council can work with developers to deliver the green, affordable, high-quality homes the town and its communities need.

Cllr Emma Taylor, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for Citizen Services, said:

“It’s been a fantastic experience to host housing experts from around the south east in an effort to bring the homes our communities need to the borough.

“The challenge now is for us to work together, analyse our learnings and bring plans forward which will see sustainable and accessible homes delivered for those on our housing waiting list.”

Following the event, the Council will keep in contact with attendees to encourage the development of joined-up, vibrant and environmentally friendly housing schemes.
