Back in the swim as refreshed Wadurs opens its doors again
Released: Tuesday, 18 May 2021
Visitors to Wadurs in Shoreham are back in the swim after the leisure centre re-opening this week after the lifting of Covid restrictions and an extensive refurbishment.
South Downs Leisure (SDL) were delighted to be able to re-open Wadurs Swimming Pool Monday after the facility had been closed for so long after previous operators went bust and pandemic shut all leisure centres.
In the meantime the centre's owners, Adur District Council, took the opportunity to extensively refurbish the changing rooms and conduct essential maintenance on the pool tiles in order to get this facility ready for the customers to return.
Chief Executive of South Downs Leisure, Duncan Anderson, said he was delighted to see returning customers to Wadurs which, he said, provided an essential life skill to the children in the local area.
“Feedback since reopening has been really positive, as regular visitors get used to new operators and new timetables,” he said, “We really look forward to welcoming more swimmers back to the centre over the coming days and weeks.”
Adur District Council's Executive Member for the Environment, Cllr Emma Evans, said:
“All leisure facilities have had a hard time during the pandemic but we have not stood still and have taken the chance to give Wadurs a refurbishment that makes it fit for purpose and returns it as an essential leisure facility for all residents to enjoy.”
She praised South Downs Leisure's stewardship of Adur's leisure facilities after the trust took over the running of the centres which closed last March as victims of the pandemic lockdown.
SDL now operate Lancing Manor Leisure Centre, Southwick Leisure Centre and Wadurs. SDL operates leisure and community services in Worthing including the Splashpoint Leisure Centre, Worthing Leisure Centre and Davison Leisure Centre as well as the Field Place Manor House and Barns.
