COVID Restart Grants of up to £18,000 now available

Released: Thursday, 08 April 2021

Restart grants of up to £18,000 are available to hard-hit local businesses in key sectors who are reopening after the winter COVID lockdown.

Adur & Worthing Councils is overseeing the payment of the one-off government sum to support those in the non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure, accommodation, personal care and gym industries.

The aim is to give local businesses a boost as the UK follows the national Roadmap out of lockdown.

As with previous COVID grants, the Councils have worked hard to make the process as easy as possible for local businesses through an online portal.

To apply for the funding visit and click on Restart grants.

The funding is simple to apply for and will be based on the rateable value of a business property as of 1st April 2021. It will be distributed as a one-off payment.

The main services or activities provided by the local businesses eligible must take place in a fixed, rate-paying premise.

Non-essential retail businesses can receive up to £6,000, while those in the leisure, hospitality, accommodation, personal care and gym industries can receive up to £18,000 based on the rateable value.

A spokesperson for the Councils said:

“We strongly urge businesses to apply for this Restart grant so they can reopen safely after what has been a very challenging period for all.

“We know how valuable these funds will be to local traders which is why we have taken steps to make the registration process as easy as possible.

“Our teams are ready to process applications quickly so we can bolster our local economy and help companies recover with the support they deserve.”

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, 30th June 2021. To find out if you are eligible for a Restart Grant and to register, see:

The funding is in addition to a range of support available to organisations impacted by COVID.

A separate discretionary scheme - known as the Additional Restrictions Grant - remains available for businesses that are struggling, are not covered by other grant schemes, or where additional funding is needed.

Funds distributed through both schemes do not have to be paid back.
