Licence holders are being urged to keep their permits up-to-date during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown

Released: Tuesday, 21 April 2020

Licence holders, particularly those that hold taxi licences, are being urged to keep their permits up-to-date during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown so that those that have closed their businesses can start operating as soon as restrictions are lifted.

Adur & Worthing Councils issued the reminder as it published full detailed advice to all businesses, groups and individuals who hold licences and permits across the area.

Licences authorising alcohol sales or extended hours for late night refreshment are also encouraged to keep their licences updated. However, the Councils do recognise the unprecedented circumstances may mean this is not possible for all.

A spokesman for Adur & Worthing Councils said:

“We appreciate that these are extraordinary times but licences should be kept up to date and where necessary renewed if at all possible. This is particularly important for taxi drivers, who have to go through a detailed and rigorous application process before being granted an initial licence. A failure to renew in time could see taxi drivers having to reapply, meaning they may not be able to legally return to the road automatically when restrictions are lifted.”

Full guidance for all licence holders is now available on the Councils' website. This also includes details on business closures, food and drink deliveries and temporary events.

Any licence holder who is unable to follow the advice is encouraged to contact the licensing unit directly. The team will do all they can to assist individuals, businesses and community groups during these unprecedented times.
