Christmas fun coming to Adur
Released: Tuesday, 03 December 2019
A ho-ho-whole lot of festive fun is set to come to Adur's towns and villages this Christmas.
With the most wonderful time of year on the horizon, Adur District Council is supporting businesses across the area with a host of events designed for all the family.
First up is Southwick Christmas Market on 7th December 2019 from 10am to 4pm. Located in Southwick Square, the Council has teamed up with Southwick Traders' Association to offer stalls, food, entertainment, rides and plenty of Christmas cheer - along with an appearance from Father Christmas himself.
The festive fun will continue with Light Up Shoreham on Friday 13th December 2019 from 3:30pm to 8:30pm. The town's independent shops and restaurants will be open for an evening of late-night shopping with more than 60 stalls offering gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes, toys and much more. A fair and community stage will take place in Pond Road while a light installation event will take place in St Mary's churchyard.
Christmas shoppers and visitors to Shoreham will also be able to take advantage of free off-street parking, which includes Pond Road, Tarmount Lane and Middle Street car parks, from 3pm while the event is running.
The fun does not stop there. In the run up to Christmas, Adur Markets promise to deliver the festive feelgood factor.
The Shoreham Christmas Market will return to East Street on Saturday 14th December 2019 from 9am to 2pm featuring traders from the popular farmers, and artisans events.
And for those last minute presents, Lancing Christmas Market will be back on North Road on Saturday 21st December 2019 from 9am to 1pm.
Adur District Council is also reminding shoppers that visitors to Southwick can park for free in the Southwick Square car park every Saturday until the end of the year.
The Council has waived the fees for the second year running, after listening to traders in the area who had said that an increase in car park tariffs approved in 2016 had coincided with a drop in footfall.
Lancing's three car parks - at North Farm Road, Littlecroft and South Street - will also have no charges on every Saturday in December (7th, 14th, 21st and 28th). The cost is being paid for by the Council after discussions with Lancing Traders' Association.
Councillor Brian Boggis, Adur District Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, said:
“Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and I'm delighted to see so many opportunities for the communities of Adur to come together this festive time.”
“I urge everyone to pop along to Lancing, Shoreham or Southwick and take in some of the festive fun on offer.”
