Worthing Borough Council invites community to discuss the cost of living

Released: Thursday, 16 March 2023

Worthing Borough Council is holding a public meeting to make it easier for residents to find out where to go for help with the rising cost of living.

In July last year the Council declared a cost of living emergency because of the impact rising costs and inflation were disproportionately having on the less well off in Worthing.

Some households are struggling to afford enough food to feed their families or the cost of bills to heat their homes, but there is help available.

The Council launched a Cost of Living Roadmap in September last year, which sets out how it and other agencies will work together to mitigate the effects on residents.

A host of national and local schemes have also been launched to help people with rising costs and a range of community organisations have started initiatives to support the physical and mental health of those struggling.

To help residents navigate the wealth of support that is available to them, Worthing Borough Council will be holding a public meeting on 25th March 2023 at Durrington Community Centre from 11am to 1pm.

Worthing borough councillors and staff from Citizens Advice will be on hand to talk people through the various forms of support available and how to access them. West Sussex County Council's Early Help team will also be there to provide help and advice to families.

Carl Walker, the Deputy Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said:

“We are keen to open up a conversation with residents about the cost of living emergency and let them know what we will do as a Council to support them.

“Most importantly, we want to listen to our residents. We want to find out what the particular challenges are in their part of town, hear their concerns and get their opinions on how we can best support them going forward.”

The meeting is open for anyone to attend, but any residents that cannot make it can access plenty of support on our dedicated cost of living web page:
