Festive fun for all the family is coming to Adur this Christmas
Released: Friday, 18 November 2022
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Adur!
With the winter holidays on the horizon, town centres and villages across the district are being treated to some festive cheer as Adur District Council and our partners prepare to host a series of merrymaking events.
Lights and Christmas trees are being installed in Southwick and Shoreham, the latter of which has kindly been sponsored by local solicitors Fitzhugh Gates.
Lancing Parish Council will also be lighting up the village centre with festive decorations.
A hamper of festive-themed events, where local traders will be promoting their unique offerings to visitors through a mix of markets, fayres, festive trials and an evening of late-night shopping, will also be taking place across the district to get people into the Christmas spirit.
The first of these is Lancing Village Fayre, which will be taking place on Saturday 26th November 2022 from 10am to 2pm. The event is being hosted in South Street and has been organised by our Adur Markets team and Lancing Parish Council.
For those people still looking for gift ideas, Southwick's Christmas market will bring together a host of goods from independent traders on Saturday 3rd December from 10am to 3pm. We are working with Southwick Traders Association to make this a great event for all.
Next up is the ever popular Light Up Shoreham event, where a group of residents have teamed up with us to provide Christmas sparkle with a festive trail, best-dressed window competition and an evening of entertainment for all the family. The town's independent shops and restaurants will also be open for late-night shopping, along with more than 60 stalls featuring gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes, toys and much more. This event is due to take place on Friday 9th December from 3:30pm to 8:30pm.
This will be followed by Shoreham Christmas Market on Saturday 10th December from 9am to 2pm, which will feature popular traders from the regular farmers' and artisans' markets. Dozens of stalls will pack East Street and neighbouring streets to spread some additional festive cheer on the run-up to Christmas.
Cllr Kevin Boram, Adur's Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, said:
“As we approach Christmas, it's always fantastic to see the bright and colourful decorations go up that really bring our town centres and villages to life during the festive period.
“The mix of merry events we've planned along with our partners and the community are really exciting, and I can't wait to see everyone enjoying our town and village spaces and supporting all our local traders. A number of local charities will also be involved, so please support them where you can so they can continue their invaluable work.”
We will also be offering free parking in off-street car parks on selected days to encourage local shopping. This is set to include:
- North Farm Road and Littlecroft car parks in Lancing on Saturday (26th November 2022)
- Shoreham's town centre car parks (Middle Street, Tarmount Lane and Pond Road) on 9th December from 3pm
- Southwick Square car park on Saturday 3rd, 10th and 17th of December
