Festive fun for all the ages coming to Adur this Christmas

Released: Tuesday, 23 November 2021

Festive fun for all the family is set to come to Adur's towns and villages this Christmas.

With the most wonderful time of year on the horizon, Adur District Council is supporting businesses across the area with a host of events.

The aim is to draw people into their local high streets at what is a crucial time of year for traders across the district.

In the past few days, teams from the Council have been busy installing lights and Christmas trees in both Shoreham and Southwick.

Focus is now turning to a series of festive-themed events featuring a host of traders, artisans and entertainers designed to draw people in to support their local high streets - with an extra present provided in the form of free parking to visitors on selected days, including no charges at Southwick Square car park every Saturday in the run-up to Christmas Day.

First up is the Lancing Christmas Market this Saturday (27th November 2021) from 10am to 2pm. Run by the Council, Lancing Traders' Association and Lancing Parish Council, a host of stalls, food and entertainment will be on offer to visitors to South Street.

The festive fun will continue the following week with the Southwick Christmas Market on 4th December from 10am to 3pm. Located in Southwick Square, the Council has teamed up with Southwick Traders Association to serve up plenty of Christmas cheer - along with an appearance from Father Christmas himself.

Then Light Up Shoreham will take place on Friday 10th December from 3:30pm to 8:30pm. A group of residents have teamed up with the Council to provide Christmas sparkle with a festive trail, best dressed window competition and an evening of entertainment. The town's independent shops and restaurants will be open for an evening of late-night shopping, along with more than 60 stalls featuring gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes, toys and much more. The Shoreham Centre will be opening its doors to offer a selection of Christmas gifts, with a fair in Pond Road and a light installation event in St Mary's churchyard.

It will be followed by The Shoreham Christmas Market, which will feature traders from the popular farmers and artisans events, Dozens of stalls will pack East Street and neighbouring streets on Saturday 11th December from 9am to 2pm.

To allow those with limited mobility to support local businesses at this important part of the trading year, the Council is offering free parking in off-street car parks on selected days, as follows:

  • North Farm Road and Littlecroft car parks in Lancing on Saturday (27th November 2021)
  • Shoreham's town centre car parks (Middle Street, Tarmount Lane and Pond Road) on 10th December from 3pm
  • Southwick Square car park every Saturday until Christmas Day

Councillor Brian Boggis, Adur District Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, said:

“Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and I'm delighted to see so many opportunities for the communities of Adur to come together this festive time.

“After what's been a difficult 18 months, our local businesses really deserve all of our support we can give them. So I urge everyone to pop along to Lancing, Shoreham or Southwick and shop local while enjoying some of the festive fun on offer.”

The two Christmas trees in Shoreham and Southwick were installed by Colas after being sourced locally from Balcombe Sawmill Estate. The Shoreham tree is sponsored by local firm Fitzhugh Gates.
