Municipal Journal Achievement Awards 2019

Released: Tuesday, 30 April 2019

Pioneering work designing digital services for residents and helping patients find effective alternatives to medical care has seen Adur & Worthing Councils shortlisted for two prestigious awards.

The Councils are on the shortlist for the categories of Digital Transformation and Public Health Improvement at the Municipal Journal Achievement Awards 2019. The MJ is a magazine dedicated to reporting and investigating local government issues.

For Digital Transformation the Councils' work designing easy-to-use online contact points for a whole range of services such as green waste and housing repairs using software that is transferable across a range of service. For example Adur Homes tenants can now book a repair online and track when the service is to be delivered keeping in regular contact with housing officers.

The digital team plan to roll out the service across a range of other activities, making Councils work more efficient and as importantly give assurance to residents that help is on the way.

For the Public Health Improvement category the Councils' work with doctors and West Sussex County Council has been recognised. The Going Local scheme involves social prescribing officers employed by Adur and Worthing Council placed within GP surgeries helping to refer patients to non-medical solution to problems where appropriate.

Often issues of isolation, housing need or debt are at the root of a problem and Going Local can link patients up with help in these areas which also frees GPs up to deal with pure medical matters with other patients.

The winners of a range of categories including Local Authority of the Year will be announced at the end of June.
