Fireworks display to return to Worthing

Released: Monday, 29 October 2018

Worthing's free annual fireworks display promises to make the 5th November 2018 a night to remember, as preparations for a seafront spectacular are underway.

More than 20,000 revellers are expected to flock to the seafront for the sizzling display, organised by Worthing Lions Club, and supported by Worthing Borough Council and the Worthing Town Centre Initiative.

Fireworks will be fired from the end of the pier, so that those on the promenade can get the best view.

The bangs and whistles are part of two days of fun on the 4th and 5th November, including the William Cole Funfair, which will take place on the promenade and in Montague Street.

Food market stalls will also be located at popular viewing points throughout Worthing, including Steyne Gardens, Montague Street and South Square.

Councillor Kevin Jenkins, Worthing Borough Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, said:

“We're delighted to be working with the Worthing Lions Club to see the return of this fantastic fireworks festival. Young and old alike will be able to enjoy the epic fireworks display from the promenade, and every penny raised will go to worthy causes.”

The Worthing Lions, a group of volunteers dedicated to helping the community, have a flare for organising events and are involved in numerous charitable and social activities throughout the year.

The fireworks display is free. Attendees are encouraged to make a donation either through Lions bucket collectors on the prom, or directly to the Lions shop in George V Avenue, Goring. All profits raised go to local Lions good causes.

The fireworks will be set off at 7:30pm on Monday 5th November from Worthing Pier. The Funfair will operate from 2pm to 9:30pm, and the rides on Montague Street will also be open on Sunday 4th November from 2pm to 6pm.

There will be no Tide of Light parade this year, but there are plans to reintroduce the event on a separate evening in 2019.
