Grants available to support community transport
Released: Thursday, 04 October 2018
A local scheme which aims to provide more community transport for those in need is now open for bids.
Groups or organisations providing transport are invited to apply for Community Transport Grants managed and funded by Adur & Worthing Councils.
Community transport offers a wide range of economic, social and health benefits for people who might need a helping hand or who otherwise would be isolated.
The aim of the grants is to encourage flexible and accessible solutions to transport needs for local communities. Typical services could be voluntary car schemes, community bus services, school transport, hospital transport, dial a ride, and wheels to work.
Transport organisations interested in getting involved could be either registered charities or companies who will run the schemes as not-for-profit or will offset any income or profit with social value.
The councils' Communities and Third Sector Lead, Jo Clarke, said:
“Community Transport is often the vital component for connecting people better and helping them to have more fulfilled lives. These grants are to support organisations that get people out and about - whether this is by car or minibus, we'd love to hear about your project”.
In Worthing, £15,000 of grant funding is available until 31st March 2019 and in Adur, £10,300.
The closing date for applications is 19th October 2018.
