Agreement struck in Worthing bar case

Released: Thursday, 13 September 2018

A Worthing bar will remain open after Worthing Borough Council's licensing committee agreed to revised conditions around the operation of the venue.

Councillors revoked the licence to the Molotov Cocktail and Vodka Bar in September 2017 after a case was brought forward by Sussex Police following crime & disorder and public safety concerns.

The decision was appealed by its owners which meant the venue in Chatsworth Road has been allowed to continue trading until this was heard.

After numerous meetings between representatives of both parties, yesterday (11th September, 2018) the council's licensing committee agreed to a mediated resolution.

Key to the agreement is an acknowledgement that:

“there is working relationship between the police and the premises licence holder and trust this will continue”.

Councillor Paul High, chairman of Worthing Borough Council's licensing committee, said:

“This has been a complex and long-running case at a high-profile venue so I am pleased that both parties have come to an agreement which will support our aims of creating a vibrant local night-time economy while maintaining public safety for all.”
