Adur car parks offer cashless option

Released: Thursday, 15 June 2017

Motorists won't have to hunt for change to use public car parks in the Adur district from next week.

A cashless system is being introduced from Wednesday 21st June 2017 that will let drivers use their mobile phones to pay to park in Shoreham, Lancing and Southwick.

RingGo is a quick and easy-to-use mobile phone service that gives users the option to pay by credit or debit card rather than with coins at a machine. The new system will complement the existing pay and display cash method, which will continue to be available.

With phone parking, there's no need to put a ticket on the dashboard because Civil Enforcement Officers check which vehicles have paid using special handheld devices, and - if you're running late or want to stay a little longer - you can top up your parking wherever you are.

Councillor Emma Evans, Adur District Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said:

“This handy new service will give residents and visitors more flexibility as well as make life easier for them, but they can still use the pay and display machines if they prefer to.”

Some car parks in Worthing are already offering RingGo as an alternative way to pay online, by text message or by calling a standard rate telephone number that is displayed on signs. There's also a RingGo app for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry or Windows mobile phones.

More information about the service can be found on the RingGo website.
