Splashing our communities with summer wildflower colour

Released: Thursday, 13 April 2017

Community Groups in Adur and Worthing are working with the Councils Parks and Open Spaces team to splash the area with colour as the Councils continue their annual summer wildflower seed drifts.

Working with community groups who are helping with the seed sowing, Parks teams are expanding the project this year to cover 23 various parks and open space sites totalling the equivalent of one and a half football pitches.

Sowing poppy, cosmos and a host of other seeds not only brings colour to open spaces but also provides nectar sources for pollinating insects such as bees and butterflies.

Seeds have already been sown on The Gallops and Hamble Rec with a schedule of other sites to follow.

Parks and Open Spaces Manager for the Councils, Daniel Ross said:

“Adur & Worthing Councils are committed to enhancing opportunities for wildlife within our Parks and Open Spaces; creating wonderful places for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
