Councillors join the queue to try out brand new outdoor gym equipment at Homefield Park, Worthing

Released: Tuesday, 14 February 2017

Last week Worthing Borough Council Executive Member for Environment Councillor Clive Roberts, Councillor Roger Oakley (WSCC), Worthing Borough Council Head of Environment Andy Edwards and Friends of Homefield Park Secretary Pam Bennett invited local residents to try out a range of newly installed outdoor gym equipment.

Although it was a rather grey mid February afternoon, the Councillors were quickly joined by a host of local school children, parents, runners and regular park visitors, all eager to try out the impressive range of outdoor gym equipment.

The outdoor gym is free to use and fully accessible for all ages and fitness levels. Its successful installation follows an extensive consultation process held with the Friends of Homefield Park group and other local residents at the end of last year.

This is just one of many recent improvements to Homefield Park the Council has delivered. Including the very popular refurbishment of the skatepark and the planned provision of new synthetic football pitches/multi use area.

Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Clive Roberts adds:

“Homefield Park, Worthing's most central green space, used to be known as the 'People's Park' and as such is fully deserving of the recent investment and refurbishment it has enjoyed.”

“Thanks to Council funding and the unstinting support of Pam and the Friends of Homefield Park group, this town centre space now hosts an impressive range of multi purpose facilities, for all members of the community to enjoy. Be it the much improved skatepark, the play area for younger children and of course this great new outdoor all weather outdoor gym equipment.”

“This all works towards the Council's long held ambitions in making Homefield Park a multi purpose, welcoming public space, with facilities for all members of the Community to enjoy outdoor fitness pursuits and promote healthier lifestyle choices.”
