Coronavirus (COVID-19): Volunteering
Update: 5th May 2020: We have received an incredible response from residents coming forward to volunteer and have temporarily suspended the registration programme for the time being. We thank everyone for their kindness and generosity at this time which is making a huge difference to the vulnerable across our communities.
Adur & Worthing Councils have been recruiting volunteers to help with their community effort to protect the vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis. This is complementary to the NHS volunteer scheme that has already been launched.
Working through our Neighbourhood Teams, volunteers have been supporting vulnerable people with:
- Help with food
- Someone to talk to
- Safety advice, for example avoiding 'scams'
- Help with accessing digital services
All volunteers are over 18 and have been DBS (Disqualification and Barring Service) checked. More information about DBS checks can be found on the GOV.UK website.
Our local community scheme aims to support all those who are vulnerable and is complementary to the national NHS Volunteer programme which is helping people who are 'extremely vulnerable' or shielded.
The Councils continue to urge people who think they may be in vulnerable categories to register online or by telephone hotline so that a comprehensive picture can be built up on the scale of need.
